    miniMATES | Spring Semester starts March 22

    Ahoy matey! Join us on a voyage of discovery and fun through the South Street Seaport Museum’s interactive early childhood program, miniMATES! Through themed songs, stories, art projects, and hands-on activities, program participants and their caregivers will learn about the sea, boats, marine life, and museum objects in a playgroup setting. miniMATES targets key aspects of development for children ages 18 months – 4 years, including language, creativity, and fine-motor skills.

    Spring miniMATES will be starting March 22 and will run for 8 weeks.
    Morning classes are designed for children 18 months – 3 years old.
    Afternoon classes are designed for children 2.5 – 4 years old.
    All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    Children cannot be left with museum staff in the playspace.

    Program Schedule:
    Early Childhood – Wednesday, 10:00 – 11:00 am
    Early Childhood – Thursdays, 10:00 – 11:00 am
    Preschool – Thursdays, 1:15 – 2:15 pm (note: 4-class session only, please see the “Afternoon Lunch and Playgroup Sessions” section below for more details.)

    Cost: $200 for the 8-class session (10% discount for additional children from the same family)
    Family-level membership holders receive an additional $15 off total enrollment.

    Afternoon Lunch and Playgroup Sessions

    Blue School families are invited to join us for our second session of “Lunch Bunch” at the South Street Seaport Museum. Starting at noon our children’s room will be open for families of 2’s and 3’s looking for a spot to eat their lunch. During our hour-long “Lunch Bunch” your child will have open access to everything in our playroom, including toys, books, art supplies, and a sand table, plus a space to eat their bagged lunch.

    After Lunch Bunch, stick around for miniMATES, our structured activity program (open to families of Half-Day 4’s, as well as 2’s and 3’s). During miniMATES your child will learn about boats, sea creatures, and the seaport environment through stories, music, art projects, sensory play activities, and more!

    Program Schedule:
    Thursday afternoons from March 16 through April 6
    Lunch + Open Play: 12 noon – 1:15 pm
    miniMATES program: 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm

    “Lunch Bunch” only: $35 for the month (note: Lunch is not provided, please supply your own.)
    miniMATES only: $100 for the month
    “Lunch Bunch” + miniMATES: $125 for the month

    Note: A caregiver must be present with child at all times.


    Open Play | Starting January 4

    We are excited to announce the start of Open Play at the South Street Seaport Museum! During Open Play, parents/caregivers and their children can stop by the Museum to use the miniMATES space as their playroom. Children can enjoy having a large space to explore and a variety of toys to use (including a large dramatic play tugboat and a sand sensory table!), all while making new friends in our South Street Seaport neighborhood. Open Play sessions will be offered several times per week, allowing families the flexibility to drop in and play whenever works best with their schedules.

    Program Schedule:
    Open Play Club, starts Wednesday January 4
    Mondays, 10:00am – 1:00pm | Wednesdays, 2:30 – 5:00pm | Thursdays, 2:30 – 5:00pm

    Open Play Punch Card – Good for 5 sessions of Open Play:
    $65 per card
    $60 discount card for additional child in family, current miniMATES families, and SSSM membership holders (family level or above)

    Drop-in fee:
    $25 per child
    $20 per each additional child in family


  • Families must complete an Open Play registration form before their child can use the play space.
  • All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian designated on registration form. Children cannot be left with museum staff in the playspace.
