Ahoy matey! Join us on a voyage of discovery and fun through the South Street Seaport Museum’s interactive early childhood program, miniMATES! Our early learning program uses themed songs, stories, art projects, and hands-on activities to teach program participants and their caregivers about boats and ships, marine life, and artifacts in a playgroup setting. miniMATES targets key aspects of development for children ages 18 months – 3 years, from language to creativity to fine-motor skills.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Children cannot be left with museum staff in the playspace.

Board the historic 1885 schooner Pioneer and set sail past Governors Island for the fishing grounds of Bay Ridge. We’ll set a trawl net and participants will haul it in, bringing up a variety of creatures from blue crabs to flounder. Children and adults help raise the sails so we can continue our exploration the old fashioned way. While sailing past the Statue of Liberty we’ll learn about the sea creatures we caught, examine plankton through a view-scope, test the water to learn how animals live here, and learn about our marine ecosystem.
The 2019 sailing season has drawn to a close. Stay tuned for the 2020 Sailing Schedule!
