Holiday Tree Lighting Activities

Holiday Tree Lighting Activities

December 2 | 3:30–7pm | 207–213 Water St | Free

Kick off the holiday season with the Seaport Museum at the annual neighborhood tree lighting—a festive evening filled with community spirit, dazzling lights, and plenty of seasonal cheer!

This year’s tree will shine from the corner of Fulton and Water Streets, right beside the historic Titanic Memorial Lighthouse. To celebrate, the Museum will open all of our Water Street locations with free admission so you can warm up, get creative, and even get a head start on your holiday shopping.

Families and visitors of all ages are invited to drop into the Museum’s program space at 207 Water Street for a hands-on holiday activity: crafting your own baggywrinkle! Using colorful yarn, you’ll create charming maritime-inspired decorations perfect for the season. Traditionally made from unraveled ropes, baggywrinkle once protected a ship’s sails—now it can add nautical flair to your holiday décor.

Then, step next door into Bowne & Co., Stationers gift emporium to browse holiday cards and unique wares in the Museum’s historic, 19th-century-inspired letterpress print shop.

And while you’re on Water Street, enjoy free access to the Seaport Museum’s Maritime City exhibition free!

At 7pm we will all head to the cobblestones for the lighting of the Seaport tree and a meet-and-greet with Santa!

Access to the program space and Bowne & Co. includes walking up and down a few stairs. This event is free, but please let us know that you’re coming by registering below. Walkups will be accommodated as possible.
