Renovation Underway | 213 – 215 Water Street
Restoration of Thomson & Co. has begun on Water Street! The project will transform the building into a hub for educational programming at the South Street Seaport Museum and a gathering space for our community. The building, which has not been renovated in decades, will now include a new climate control system, elevators, and full ADA accessibility. You may notice the construction underway on Little Water Street, and we’ll update this page with news on when to expect the renovated building to open as the project progresses.
Once renovated, Thomson & Co. will welcome visitors into more than 11,000 square feet of previously inaccessible spaces on Water Street for exhibitions, educational programs, and community meetings. The space will also provide smaller conference areas and programmatic offices for the Museum, as well as accessible restrooms for the public.
Thomson & Co., designed in the 19th Century by renowned New York City architect Stephen D. Hatch (1839-1894), was originally used for processing tins and metal. Learn more about the history of Thomson & Co. below.
