Plunder Quest Film Screening

Plunder Quest Film Screening

April 18 | 7pm | 213 Water Street | Free

Join the Seaport Museum for a special screening of the award-winning feature film Plunder Quest with writer and director Kalani Hubbard.

This adventure comedy follows the thrilling journey of Thomas Waters, who, after hearing rumors of hidden Prohibition-era whiskey on a remote island, sets off in search of liquid gold—only to find himself on the adventure of a lifetime. Filmed across New York City and the Hudson River Valley, Plunder Quest culminates in a heart-pounding finale on the legendary Bannerman Island in Beacon, NY.

Before the film, Hubbard will share the inspirations behind his work, from real-life stories of people discovering of vintage rum bottles and selling them for a fortune to his love for 1980s adventure films and the storied waterways of New York—the same rivers and coastlines that once carried rum runners, traders, and explorers. A Q&A with the director and a wine reception will follow the screening.

Advanced registration is encouraged for this screening, and walkups will be accommodated as possible. This film is rated PG-13, and content is recommended for ages 13 and up.

About the Speaker

Kalani Hubbard is an award-winning filmmaker redefining the boundaries of indie cinema with his visionary storytelling. As a writer, director, and cinematographer, he brings a sense of wonder and adventure to his films, blending fantasy, comedy, and heart-pounding spectacle. Inspired by the cinematic magic of the 1980s, he co-founded Pure Magic Pictures with his wife, Stefanie Hubbard, launching an independent studio in 2022. His standout films, including Plunder Quest and Skye Hoshi: Anime Girl, have screened at Fan Expos, anime conventions, theaters, and even in-flight entertainment, captivating audiences worldwide. A master of big ideas on indie budgets, Kalani pushes the limits of creativity, proving that grand storytelling doesn’t need a blockbuster budget—just vision and heart. His films are filled with imagination, humor, and spectacle, drawing in fans of geek culture, punk, and comics. Beyond directing, he infuses his love of comedy and music into his work and frequently steps in front of the camera for memorable on-screen moments. With a relentless passion for pushing indie filmmaking forward, Kalani is carving out a new era of cinematic magic beyond the Hollywood system.
