Queer History at the Seaport Museum’s Collections and Programs

In “Queer” Before “Queer” Elena Abou Mrad, the Archives and Special Collections Specialist, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Shack, the Collections and Exhibitions Management Intern, explore the mention of “Queer Clubs” found within an article from the Museum’s collections. Read along to follow how their curiosity about the term’s history leads them into the Museum’s Archival Collections, uncovering deeper connections than initially expected.

In Ripples of Change Zak Risinger, Director of Engagement and Public Programs, shares how the Museum’s public programming has evolved to include more inclusive representations of all New Yorkers. This post focuses on the Queer History series, which highlights underrepresented queer narratives from the past and present. Read along to see how the Museum develops these programs and explores queer culture from the early to mid-20th century.
