June 23 | 10am | Wavertree | Free
Anyone ages 12 and up is invited to join the Seaport Museum, in partnership with the Consulate General of India and The Culture Tree, for a special yoga practice aboard the tall ship Wavertree that extends the fun of International Day of Yoga (IDY).
In 2014, World Health Organization established IDY to lead global efforts to celebrate the physical and mental health benefits of yoga and its contributions to life-long health and well-being. Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, the Consul General of India in New York, and Anu Sehgal, the founder and CEO of The Culture Tree, will welcome the group to this special event. International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21. To include more people in the fun, the Seaport Museum will hold its celebration on Sunday, June 23.
This mindful and invigorating 45-minute practice will be both accessible and challenging for all skill levels. Advance registration is required. Huge thank you to Gaiam for donating some gorgeous new mats to the Seaport Museum to use for this program. Though we have these new mats, there will probably not be enough for everyone so please bring your own yoga mat. This class will take place on the metal deck of a ship, and a mat will help with your practice. Capacity is limited; claim your space before this special class is full!
Please note that access to Wavertree for this program involves climbing a few stairs, walking up an angled gangway, and descending a few stairs onto the deck.
If you don’t see tickets for the event, it has reached capacity. If the session is at capacity at the time of registration, you are encouraged to try our in-person cancellation line, starting 10 minutes before the class.

About the Speakers
Binaya Srikanta Pradhan is a career diplomat of the 2002 batch of the Indian Foreign Service. He speaks English, Russian, Hindi, and Odiya languages. His diplomatic career includes senior roles in Indian Embassies in Moscow, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan from 2004 to 2012. During 2012–14, he managed India’s relations with Afghanistan and Iran at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
From 2014 to 2019, Pradhan served as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. His international engagements extended to being the Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of India, Moscow, from June 2019 to July 2021.
Prior to his current role as Consul General of India, New York, he held the position of High Commissioner of India to Tanzania and Permanent Representative to the East African Community (EAC) from August 2021 to January 2024. During this period India-Tanzania relationship was elevated to “Strategic Partnership” and the first overseas campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in Zanzibar, Tanzania was set up.
Pradhan demonstrates a keen interest in economic and energy diplomacy. Beyond his diplomatic pursuits, he finds enjoyment in playing golf. He is married to Monalisa, and they are proud parents of two daughters, Dibyanshi and Diya.
Anu Sehgal is the founder and CEO of The Culture Tree. She grew up in India and moved to the US more than 25 years ago. After the move, she was starved for authentic Indian experiences and community and devoured anything that came her way: film festivals, exhibits, book readings etc. Once she became a mother, the lack of quality and authentic Indian programs and classes became even more evident. She is an active parent and believes an awareness of one’s heritage, culture and language is key for children to become self-aware and confident individuals. She also recognizes the immense benefits of being bilingual.
As a cultural educator, she looks forward to providing children with authentic, immersive and inspiring experiences. Through classes and events, we can offer cross-cultural exposure that can help shape knowledgeable, open-minded and respectful individuals.
